Preschool/Early Childhood Program Overview

Full Day Preschool Program (Monthly Tuition)

Augusta USD 402 Fee Based Preschool provides a high-quality early learning experience for young children in the years before they are eligible to enter kindergarten. The outcome is for children to enter kindergarten ready to succeed. Full day services are offered at Ewalt Elementary.

Program details:

  • Certified teachers and highly-qualified support staff.
  • ​Research based curriculum
  • Classes follow the district calendar and meet whenever school is in session.
  • Class meets from 8:00-3:15 M-F.  
  • Students can be dropped off starting at 7:30 and must be picked up by 3:30. 
  • Students participate in library and physical education instructed by certified teachers.
  • $475 per month.
  • Students must be 3, 4 or 5 years old as of Aug. 31 of the 2019-2020 school year and must be toilet trained to enroll for the fall of 2019.
  • If the child is placed in the program, all paperwork and deposit of $100 will be due within two weeks of placement.
  • If you are currently in the Fee-Based Pre-Kindergarten and are wanting to continue participation, you will need to reapply each year.

Registration is ongoing. Applications may be submitted to Ewalt Elementary. Enrollment is first-come, first-served. 


Early Childhood Special Education (1 time school fee due at enrollment) 
Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) is designed for 3- and 4-year-olds who qualify for services in areas such as communicating, learning, hearing, seeing, moving or socializing, as well as peer models who assist with children with special needs. Transportation is provided for this program. 

Areas of special education include: earlychildhood – disability, visual impairments including blindness, hearing impairments including deafness, deaf-blindness, autism, traumatic brain injury, emotional disturbance, specific learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, multiple disabilities, orthopedic impairments, other health impairments, speech or language impairments, and gifted. 

Parents are advised that all special education services are designed to offer the utmost in educational opportunities for each qualifying student, as well as to provide assistance and support  the first step is to have your child attend a "Count Your Kid In" screening (CYKI). Student peer models provide language and social modeling in the classrooms and are selected through a lottery system. Peer models must meet the following criteria and must complete an application prior to March : 

  • Reside in the Augusta School District or have a parent who is employed by the district.
  • Be three years, six months by Sept. 1, 2019, for the 2019-20 school year and be toilet trained
  • Pass the screening in areas of language, pre-academics, social, self-help, fine motor and gross motor skills


4 Year Old At-Risk Pre-K Program (1 Time School Fees due at Enrollment) 
The 4 Year Old At-Risk Program is a state funded program for 4 year old students (Must be 4 years of age by August 31st).  Students must meet one or more of the at-risk criteria lsted below and must be enrolled by September 20, 2019. 

To be eligible for the State Pre-k: 4 Year Old at Risk, a student must be four years of age on or before August 31, 2019. 

  • Family qualifies for FREE lunch program.
  • Student lives in a single parent home.
  • Student has a teen parent, or a parent who was a teen at time of student’s birth.
  • Student has a parent who does not have a high school diploma/GED.
  • English is not the primary language spoken in the student’s home.
  • Student has a developmental delay that can be documented with an Early Childhood Screening (must contact for screening).
  • Student qualifies for migrant/homeless status.

  • Provided to all students living within the school district limits


  • Monday – Friday
  • Program Hours:
    • Morning Class:  7:50 am – 10:50 am
    • Afternoon Class: 12:15 pm – 3:15 pm
